Vantaa, Finland
Laura Koivuluoma finished in second place at last weekend’s domestic karting KF1 class championships. In a tough competition Laura left behind last season’s World Cup silver medallist, Aaro Vainio. Koivuluoma’s teammate, Juuso-Matti Pajuranta from Vammala finished in first place. This race made history in several ways – it was the first time ever the winning vehicle sported a Finnish chassis, and Koivuluoma became the first female cart driver to have won a medal in the top class. KF1 class championship-medals are a highly esteemed fixture in the Finnish motor sport calendar. Previous winning medalists include renowned drivers such as Rosberg, Häkkinen, Salo and Räikkönen.
“It was just an amazing feeling when the chequered flag fell confirming my silver medal in the 2010 Finnish Championship. A medal is a reward for hard work. A deep bow and a big thank you for my mechanic Marko Kariskoski’s hard work during the weekend and above all, to my father Hannu, who has supported and believed in me through these years. We did it Dad! “
